It’s Time for Debt Forgiveness, American-Style
There is a solution, and it will appeal to the rebellious spirits occupying Wall Street because it combines a sense of social justice with old-fashioned common sense. It is forgiveness—forgive the debtors. ……Forgiving the debtors is the right thing to do, because the bankers have already been forgiven. The largest banks were in effect relieved of any guilt—for their crimes of systemic fraud or for causing the financial breakdown—when the government bailed them out, no questions asked…..Think Jubilee, American style.

Debt Forgiveness, Euro-Style (The Nation)
The Europeans are whacking the bankers big time……Yes, the sovereign governments of Europe have to put up more billions to rescue debt-soaked smaller nations like Greece. But the bankers who lent all that money will be compelled to share in the pain – a 50 percent write-down on the sovereign-nation bonds they are holding. Ouch……This may be the beginning of wisdom – forgiving debts that in any case will never be repaid. That giant step should give Europe a clean start for economic recovery. It’s a much smarter alternative than imposing perpetual austerity on people who are already broke.

Occupy Wall Street and the End of Crony Capitalism :: The Market
David Knox Barker
is a long wave analyst, technical market analyst, world-systems analyst and author of Jubilee on Wall Street; An Optimistic Look at the Global Financial Crash, Updated and Expanded Edition (2009).

“Make no mistake about it capitalism is in peril. Occupy Wall Street demonstrators realize that the current system of crony capitalism is rigged. They intend to bring it down. However, before you throw in with the Occupy Wall Street movement, be aware that there are more forces afoot than being reported. An ill wind is blowing into the void produced by decades of failed policy. Far more radical elements than most are aware actually anticipated this global long wave debt collapse, and they are now seizing the day. Their plans are not a spontaneous movement of workers frustrated by a shortage of jobs and taxpayer funded banker bonuses. They have bigger fish to fry…. World-systems analysis suggests that crony capitalism will crumble during this global crisis, and the future of civilization is either a socialist revolution or alternatively, the dawn of The Great Republic and a new golden age. History is about to be made.”
